Origin & history
The earliest form of settlement near the village dates to the Imiri Hill ( Georgian : იმირის გორა ; Azerbaijani : İmir təpəsi ) from the 6th millenium BC, a 5 m high hillfort 90 m in diameter, which was excavated in 1971. Tombs on the hill date back to Early Iron and as far back as the Early Bronze ages , likely belonging to the Kura-Araxes culture . The Georgian authorities have protected the site since 2016.
